CUDDY & HIS MATES

A new play inspired by the return of The Lindisfarne Gospels to Durham in 2013.

This new play for children (ages 7-12 years) and families explores the early lives of three of the ‘Northern Saints’ from a child’s perspective, uncovering the humanity behind the history.

Meet Cuthbert the country lad, Bede the bookish one, and Godric a daredevil who later became a pirate adventurer. The play tells of their childhood escapades before monastic life and how they ran their mothers ragged just like children do! Cuthbert is always bringing home pet snakes and injured eaglets, Bede is obsessed with history and never stops asking questions, Godric loves dressing up and having mock sword fights! Saints are remembered and revered because of their holiness but, like us, they were all young once. This wonderful production includes an original sound score of Northumbrian pipe music.

Performance duration approx. 50 mins – no interval.

Curriculum Links: DRAMA, ENGLISH, MUSIC, RELIGION, HISTORY, PSHE, CITIZENSHIP.

Associated drama workshops also available.

Successfully toured the North East & Cumbria  for approx. 8 wks in summer/autmn 2014

So pleased I made the show especially tonight as I felt special to be in St Cuthbert’s Church and the play was lovely.  Good fun and good knowledge about the saints themselves

A most enjoyable and informative performance. The set design was simple and delightfully appropriate, the music enthralling and the acting enchanting. As a child who’s never grown up, I loved it!

AUDIENCE MEMBER

Very enjoyable. Brought the excitement of the gospels alive. Pupis were engaged and the props were great. Loved how the hall was set up so puplis could all see, and feel involved

AUDIENCE MEMBER

Yes, pitched perfectly for age of the pupils. Year 1 pupils also loved it and remained engaged and attentive throughout

AUDIENCE MEMBER

The children thoroughly enjoyed the play – some found it moving in places, they were very attentive, a good sign. The adults loved the performance very much indeed. The Lindisfarne Gospels were all represented, by the thoughtful play so well written of acted. Thanks to Shelley, Katie, Tom and Matt
