Jukebox Uke Virtual Music Encounters

Jukebox Uke

Jukebox Uke is a music project working with care homes across the region to reduce the feeling of isolation enabling individuals to reconnect with themselves and the world through the power of music. From now until Winter 2020, Mad Alice Theatre professional performer and musician Pete is digitally visiting care homes with his trusty Uke and hosting 1 on 1 virtual music encounters with individual residents.

These FREE virtual sessions create a safe supported sensory space to chat about music, listen, make requests and sing along – no musical encounter will be the same as they are led by the participating individual. Happening in real time, each virtual musical encounter focusses on the individual in that moment; responding to their needs, their mood, their musical tastes to engage them with a high quality, enjoyable participatory musical experience.

Music has the power to unlock emotions and memories and our one on ones seek to use that power to enable a deeper level of engagement. For residents with dementia, music can achieve rare and very real encounters and connect with the person within.

This project is being delivered with the support and guidance of each individual participating care home and we are working with residents with a wide range of needs. These virtual music encounters happen in real time – but these digital moments can be filmed and later shared with residents so they can relive them, enjoy them with their family, friends and the care home.

This project is made possible by Arts Council Emergency Response Funding and is part of #MadAliceOnline portfolio of projects running June - December 2020; if you’re interested in finding out more about the Jukebox Uke project or if you’re a care home wanting to host Pete’s Jukebox Uke virtual sessions please get in touch via: [email protected]
