WELCOME!

Mad Alice Theatre Company develops and produces high quality professional theatre touring in Co. Durham and to our wider North East region as well as nationally.

We specialise in theatre for children and young people and families and as well as touring to theatres , schools and community venues, our out door promenade/site specific productions have also been enjoyed by all ages due to their unusual and accessible nature– despite the British Weather!

Being aware of the positive effects of drama and theatre we are committed to providing inclusive work and activities which benefit those with whom we work. Activity in schools and the wider community, including over 60s,  unemployed and homeless young people, the bereaved, people with mental health issues and adults and children affected by domestic abuse have all formed a core part of what we do.

We devise and write our own work as well as producing existing scripts and support the development of new writing.

We regularly deliver holiday drama projects for children and young people, music and drama workshops for toddlers and their families and a wealth of drama and storytelling sessions  supporting the curriculum.

May 2020 saw Mad Alice Theatre receive Emergency Response Funding from Arts Council England. We were thrilled to secure this grant and it has meant that we can continue our wonderful work throughout the Corona Virus Pandemic. This funding will enable us to roll out an exciting programme of activities across June – December including a music project for older people in residential homes (primarily in Consett and The Co. Durham area then across the North East), work in schools, development of the next iteration of our show Rose & Robin,  “live online” story sessions to “looked after children”, development of a new show for 4-7 yrs, digital sharings of Mad Alice shows gone by AND our Rise & Shine virtual story times!

Online delivery can never compare with "live" performance and interaction but we will strive to make the experience an inspiring and uplifting one for our audience and participants until theatre and arts delivery return to a safe "norm". An exciting challenge for us as a company to adapt, be brave, try new things and learn new skills whilst generating work and necessary creative challenges for our core artistic team, thus continuing to bring high quality cultural experiences to our loyal audiences and build new ones, whilst supporting too those most vulnerable in society at this time. Bringing a little bit of happiness and alleviating loneliness in these testing times!

Currently we are in the rehearsal room creating a new family show SAVE OUR SANDWICH, commissioned by DCC and touring Co Durham community venues in Summer 2023 as well as planning a new open air summer Shakespeare play with community involvement  and a new show with Peta Lily, building on the initial development in 2020.
